The process worked thus: all names were put in a hat (actually it was a very nice white ceramic noodle bowl) and a list of all 10 van Gelder family members participating was created. We then drew a name to match to each name on the list. The result was the schedule you see. It shows Givers and Givees (the person buying and the person being bought for respectively for those of you who don't want to concentrate too hard). So, Greg buys for Michael, Lara buys for Anne, Michael buys for Brett etc.
We have yet to agree on a standard gift value. We can do that a little closer to the time but start thinking about it now...!
Anybody unhappy with the list... tough. Sometimes you have to accept that if you do nothing then something will be done for (to?) you.

Regarding the amount to be spent per person, I usually spend about R200 per person and therefore was thinking around the R400/R450 per person(ie per family = 2 adult gifts = R900 MAX MAX MAX!!!!
How you make up the amount spent could be 1 larger gift or many smaller gifts totaling the sum agreed upon. This is merely my suggestion so lets see if any of you out there have any better ideas!
Cheeky, cheeky.... But thanx very much for doing it. Stacie's suggestion of R400 p/p seems a bit generous, but perhaps I'm not understanding or just plain stingy. What do you think? Also, suggestions, suggestions!!!!!
Love to all
Well think of it this way. Ten people so you have around nine gifts to buy. You can cheat and get couples a joint gift but you would still have somewhere between 5-9 gifts. If you average those out at R100 each (£10) then you are looking at R500-R900. And you have to buy that many gifts. This way you buy ONE gift for about R400. Looks like a bargain to me in terms of cost and effot. And the "givee" hopefully gets something that took (and got) a little thought and that they will like.
Lara pointed out that with 10 people we have five families. Each family unit has to buy two gifts so in effect with R400 per gift we would save no money. But we would save a great deal of hassle. So, on that basis we are open to suggestions. I have absolutely NO OBJECTION to saving some money. What do the rest of you think?
